Gochar — Planetary Transits

How current planetary movements affect your birth chart

What is Gochar?

Gochar (transit) refers to the current real-time movement of planets through the zodiac. While your birth chart (Kundli) is fixed at the moment of birth, transiting planets continuously move and activate different areas of your chart. Jyotish analyzes transits primarily from the Moon sign (Chandra Lagna), though Lagna-based analysis is also used. The interaction between transiting planets and your natal positions triggers events, opportunities, and challenges at specific times in your life.

Sade Sati — Saturn's 7.5 Year Transit

Sade Sati occurs when Saturn transits through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from your natal Moon. It lasts approximately 7.5 years and is one of the most significant transits in Vedic astrology.

Phase 1 (2.5 years): Saturn in 12th from Moon — financial stress, mental anxiety, loss of comfort, increased expenses, sleep disturbances.

Phase 2 (2.5 years): Saturn over natal Moon (most intense phase) — health issues, career challenges, emotional heaviness, relationship strain, identity crisis.

Phase 3 (2.5 years): Saturn in 2nd from Moon — family tensions, financial recovery begins, speech issues, dietary changes, gradual stabilization.

Remedies: Chanting Shani mantras (Om Sham Shanaischaraya Namah), donating black items on Saturday, serving the elderly and underprivileged, reciting Hanuman Chalisa, wearing blue sapphire only if recommended by an astrologer.

Important: Sade Sati is not always negative — for many people it brings maturity, discipline, spiritual growth, and lasting achievements built on hard work. The actual results depend on Saturn's role in your birth chart and its Ashtakavarga score.

Jupiter Transit — The Great Benefic

Jupiter's 12-month stay in each sign is the most watched transit in Vedic astrology. As the greatest natural benefic, Jupiter's transit can uplift entire areas of life.

Jupiter transiting over your Moon sign (Janma Guru) brings expansion, optimism, and luck — though it can also cause overconfidence or weight gain.

Auspicious positions: Jupiter in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th houses from Moon is generally favorable — bringing wealth, wisdom, good relationships, fortune, and gains respectively.

Challenging positions: Jupiter in the 3rd, 6th, and 8th houses from Moon can bring obstacles, conflicts, and unexpected setbacks — though even here, Jupiter's benefic nature softens the blow compared to malefic transits.

Practical Transit Tips

• Major transits of Saturn, Jupiter, and Rahu/Ketu matter most — focus your analysis on these slow-moving planets.
• Check Ashtakavarga points for transit strength — a planet transiting a sign where it has 4+ points gives good results.
• Vedha (obstruction) can nullify good transit results — always check for vedha points from other transiting planets.
• Double transit of Jupiter + Saturn on a house activates it — major life events happen when both aspect the same house simultaneously.
• Retrograde transits revisit old themes — unfinished matters from the direct motion phase come back for resolution.
• Eclipse transits near your natal planets bring sudden, dramatic changes — especially within 3 degrees of a natal planet.
