Muhurta — Auspicious Timing

The science of choosing the right moment for important actions

What is Muhurta?

Muhurta means "auspicious time." The ancient Rishis observed that the results of an action depend not just on what you do, but when you do it. Muhurta Shastra is the science of electing the best time for important life events — marriages, business launches, travel, house construction, starting education, and more. By aligning your actions with favorable planetary positions, nakshatras, tithis, and yogas, you maximize the chances of success and minimize obstacles.

General Muhurta Guidelines

Key principles for selecting an auspicious Muhurta:

• Shukla Paksha (waxing moon) is preferred for auspicious events
• Avoid Rikta Tithis (4th, 9th, 14th) for important beginnings
• Amavasya and Purnima have specific uses — Amavasya for Pitru Karma, Purnima for spiritual activities
• Avoid Bhadra (Vishti Karana) — an inauspicious time window
• Check for Panchak (last 5 nakshatras — Dhanishtha to Revati) — avoid travel south, making beds, roofing
• Never start important work during Rahu Kaal — results will face obstacles or delays
• Choghadiya system can be used for quick muhurta selection when detailed Panchang is unavailable
